Thrifting is something that I used to look at as “gross” simply because I just assumed that anything and everything that was second hand just wasn’t good. That is absolutely not the case! If your mindset on thrifting and second hand was just like mine I hope that I can help sway your thoughts. Thrifting is not only good for your wallet but also the Earth!
A few months back I wrote a post about fast fashion (you can read it here!) and around then is when I started taking thrifting seriously. I thrift 95% of the time and 5% goes to shoes, accessories and really nice clothes that I know will last me forever. I don’t buy shoes a lot, all I wear are my white vans and vegan doc martens. My vans I wear until I literally cannot wear them no more and then I’ll purchase another pair. I don’t buy accessories often if ever and when I do it’s usually because I lost an earring and need another pair.
After learning about fast fashion I knew that I had to do my part in not only helping the Earth but also not supporting companies that don’t treat their workers well. A lot of people don’t know that clothes they throw out end up in landfills where the colors in the clothes contaminate our Earth. Also, workers aren’t treated well at all. Abuse, 12+ hour work days, workers are underpaid and so much more happens behind the scenes of the clothing you buy from companies like Forever 21, Zara, etc.!
I’m happy to say that almost my whole wardrobe is thrifted and secondhand! A few exceptions include my shoes and some clothes I already had that I haven’t donated! I’ve also been thrifting any furniture or decor that I’ve been needing and it’s made my room feel a lot more unique and fun!
If you’re wanting to thrift I absolutely recommend it! You’ll save money off normal priced clothing and sometimes you’ll even find never worn clothing! I always find Free People where I live which is one of my favorite brands, so you really never know what you’ll find!
